The festival is deeply saddened to announce that we have lost our friend, mentor, former President and one of the founders of Auckland Folk Festival, Mr. Roger Giles, who passed away yesterday in Auckland after a long illness. Roger was the driving force of the festival for many years and was responsible for introducing folk music to generations of New Zealanders. Folk musicians and festival goers around the world will mourn him.

Our thoughts go out to Hilary, Emily, Sam and the whole whanau.

Our grandfather clock has stopped….

Roger GIles, former President, long time friend and mentor of the Auckland Folk Festival.

The 2020 Auckland Folk Festival was a huge success, with great feedback from festival goers and guest artists alike.  A theme of the feedback from overseas guests was just how friendly the festival seemed with an atmosphere second to none around the world.

There were sublime performances throughout the weekend, and with the favourable weather Village Green concept proved to be a winner.

In the wee small hours there were some magic jam sessions and sing-alongs, and by the end of the festival there were some very happy, if tired, dancers.

Meanwhile, the expanded kids area saw lots of families and kids enjoying the maze and entertainment.
